Despite Rains Crandon Has Epic
Weekend
Chestnut Clinches Classix Title,
Light Buggy Largest Field
Glenview, IL (September 6, 2011) -
Somehow TORC, USAC, along with the track crew at Crandon completed
three full rounds of racing as well as the AMSOIL Cup during the Labor
Day weekend. It was amazing due to the fact that rain fell on all
three days causing delays, schedule changes and through all of it, the
spectators filled the Crandon hillside to watch 106 Sportsman and 42
PRO off-road racers.
Here's some of the Sportsman Highlights
from Fall Crandon.
The Super Truck class saw Dan Baudoux go
four in a row as he swept the weekend.
Matt Ives also made it four in a row as
he swept the Stock Truck class and now has a substantial points lead
over Nick Baumgartner.
Super Stock Truck had three different
winners with Nick Byng winning the Round 4 make-up, Al Konitzer taking
Round 9 and Justin Keener took his first class win nearly leading flag
to flag in Round 10.
Larry Job won twice and CJ Greaves once
in Super Buggy. The most consistent driver of the weekend was New
Jersey's Bob Klaus as he finished on the podium all three races.
In 1600 Buggy, Brad Erickson opened up a
slight points lead over Mark Steinhardt after taking two wins and a
third place finish.
Greg Stingle opened up a seventeen point
lead in the Light Buggy over Matt Gerald with a win, and two third
place showings. Light Buggy also had the largest starting field of the
weekend with twenty-two entries.
Brad LeMarche continues to lead the
Formula 4x4 group as he won twice over the weekend. Dave Miah moved
into second place in the championship chase with a runner-up finish on
Friday and a win on Sunday.
Dale Chestnut made it six Classix wins
in a row on Friday, as a broken spindle ended his win streak on
Saturday. Chestnut came back to win on Sunday to clinch the 2011 TORC
Sportsman Classix Championship.
There were one hundred six Sportsman
entries at the TORC Labor Day event in Crandon, Wisconsin.
