Fun Walk for a Serious Cause
The Crandon International Off-Road Raceway along with our friends at the
Forest County Potawatomi is please to invite you on a very special walk.
The ‘Fun Walk for a Serious Cause’ is a planned walk on the track to
create a greater awareness of Diabetes, a disease affecting many
Americans regardless of age, gender or ethnicity.
The statistics are staggering with more than 25.8 million children and
adults or 8% of the population suffering from Type I or Type II
diabetes. Equally alarming, there are over 79 million people in the
pre-diabetes stage. Over 215,000 people under the age of 20 have
diabetes and 1 in 400 children have Type I diabetes.
As a leading provider of health care in our community and one with a
full time Certified Diabetes Educator, the Forest County Potawatomi
Heath and Wellness Center is leading the charge to create a greater
awareness to combat this severe malady. The Health and wellness Center
reminds us that there are many proactive things we can do to fight back
including monitoring our diet and leading an active lifestyle.
The American Diabetes Association has an excellent message: “Stop
diabetes in its tracks. Change your diet, increase you level of physical
activity, maintain a healthy weight – with these positive steps, you can
stay healthier longer and reduce your risk of diabetes”.
You don’t have to become a track start to be active but you do have to
get on your feet. It’s as easy as a daily walk for a great cause!
Join the Fun Walk
We will be selling shirts donated by our friends at ‘Racin Dirty’ for a
$5.00 minimum donation at selected locations around the track. All
proceeds from this event will be provided to area residents in need of
medical assistance in their struggle against diabetes.
The Fun Walk is scheduled to start at 6:00 PM on Saturday after the PRO
4WD race. Participants may assemble by the stage to the north side of
the big barn. If you are wearing one of our special shirts, you may then
enter the track and join the fun.
Many of your favorite drivers will be leading the walk as we go around
the track. A group picture (for our planned museum) will be taken at the
bottom of the Traxxas Jump.
There will be a .75 mile walk that returns to the starting point after
visiting the Oakley Watches Gravel Pit, Traxxas Jump Zone and the AMSOIL
Finish line. For those wishing to experience more, we will continue our
1.75 mile walk going around the entire track. The walk will continue to
the Argonne Corner, past the Potawatomi Start Line and back to the
starting point.
