MORR Sportsman Get Early Look at Crandon Track Updates
Appleton, WI (May 20, 2010) - Twenty-three MORR Sportsman
Members got a pre-season opportunity to test and tune their
race vehicles on the recently updated Crandon International
Off-Road Raceway. The changes included a higher Traxxas
Launch Zone Jump and four of the turns were widened as well
as large amounts of clay were added to increase the banking.
The end result will be improved passing areas and really
quick lap times.
"We moved over 40,000 yards of clay and fill last fall to
build a good base," said Cliff Flannery, President. "This
spring we move another 27,500 yards to cap of the track
making for wider turns for better passing and banking
corners to improve speed times" he adds. "The fastest lap
will be set at the 2010 Brush Run June 18-20" continued
Cliff, "this is the most we have done to this track ever."
The Crandon Test Day also allowed any of the new V-8 powered
PRO-Light and Ultra/Limited 4 trucks to participate in
helping with the development of the newly created classes.
Shawn Morris in his just completed Chevy powered PRO-Light
took advantage of the track time, as did Luke Zoetmulder in
the Ford powered Ultra 4. Both trucks looked really quick
and this summer should be very interesting as these two
classes will be crowd pleasers. In fact, nine Sportsman
divisions were represented, as all participants had four
separate opportunities on the track.
After the two morning sessions, MORR served lunch for
everyone in attendance. Crandon businesses were kept busy as
food and drinks were purchased from Subway, Duck's Bar and
Schaefer Food Mart. During lunch, a raffle was held for a
weekend package from Best Western-Crandon. The winner was
Cookie Demeny.
The final two afternoon practice sessions saw teams change
gearing and suspension setups, looking to take advantage of
the new track improvements. "Coming here today was just
going to be a shakedown run for the season opener in
Antigo," noted Stock Truck competitor Nick Byng. "After
taking a few laps around the track, I think with all the
improvements to the track, everyone that came to test has an
advantage over the competition."
MORR would like to thank all the teams, supporters,
volunteers, and Crandon area businesses that made this day a
huge success. Including; the Best Western-Crandon, Duck's
Bar, Subway-Crandon, Schaefer's Food Mart, Pack'em Inn, The
Work Bar, NAPA-Crandon, and Liquor Lode.
Additional thanks goes to the people of Crandon, Wisconsin.
The community has supported off-road racing for over forty
years and MORR hopes that off-road racing will continue for
generations to come.
